Learn the Secrets to Book Marketing from Russell Perry

Many authors say the hardest part about writing a book isn’t the actual writing – it’s the MARKETING!

Come and learn some very practical tips about promoting and selling YOUR book from expert book marketer and Scope co-editor, Russell Perry.

Russell has worked in marketing and sales for most of his life and is himself an author of 4 books and numerous short stories. He founded the ‘Australian Authors Marketplace’ website as he saw that many authors need help with marketing.

Don’t worry – you aren’t alone if you are feeling daunted at the prospect of having to promote and sell your book. For many writers any kind of marketing or sales is beyond their experience, let alone the fact that book marketing is a world unto itself.

Russell has some great advice to share that might help get those cartons of books out of the garage and into the hands of readers or boost those online sales.

Come and hear a great speaker, enjoy a delicious afternoon tea and network with other writers.

THE REALITIES OF PUBLISHING

‘The Benefits of Self-Publishing Vs Hybrid Publishing’

Your book is a message you want to share with the world – but how do you get it out there?

The traditional publishing route is highly competitive and not for everyone so what are the alternatives?

What are the benefits of hybrid publishing? And what should you look out for?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of self-publishing?

What do these terms even mean?

Whether you already have a book, are in the throes of writing one or even thinking of it, you can’t afford to miss this informative panel discussion with experts Jennifer Lancaster and Jacki Ferro, as moderated by Sally Eberhardt.

Jennifer Lancaster is a non-fiction writing coach who helps serious authors with book coaching, copy editing, and self-publishing courses. Jennifer created the ‘Business Author Academy’ and the online course ‘Book Creation Success’.

Jacki Ferro writes and edits life stories at her business, Raw Memoirs. Through her writing and community development work, Jacki supports social justice, reconciliation and multiculturalism. Jacki regularly works with both a self-publisher and traditional publisher in Brisbane. She has been co-writing, editing or appraising since 2015.

As an author herself, Sally Eberhardt has lots of questions to ask Jennifer and Jacki!

Have YOUR questions answered – at the end of discussion, the panel will take questions from the audience.

Lucky door prizes will be drawn, then enjoy afternoon tea with time for networking.

Cost is $10.00 for FAWQ members; $15.00 for non-members.

Lauren Daniels Poetry Workshop @ Redcliffe Library
Aug 30 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

FAWQ Gathering: Saturday August 30 2025: Poetry Workshop with L.E. Daniels 2 – 3.30 p.m. followed by lucky door prizes, afternoon tea, and networking @ Redcliffe library meeting rooms

90-Minutes of Poetry with L. E. Daniels

Precision. Economy. Emotional truth. Show more than tell. Join award-winning poet, Lauren Elise Daniels for practical lessons in strengthening voice, cohesion, theme, literary elements, and transformation in small spaces to see your prose gain more traction. For this workshop, our emphasis is less about sonnets and more about authenticity. It’s about message over rhyme. Through readings, discussions and writing exercises, we:

  • Explore structures and take our pick with nothing forced
  • Sharpen our words as we lift our messaging as we coax our words into the sublime
  • Consider transformation and surprise ourselves through lots of writing prompts
  • Escape forced rhyme while we focus on the rhythm of our thoughts
  • Bring pen and paper or a laptop to write reams
