Pink and blue with a touch of purple

And sparkles on the wing

Joy you give and joy you take

As your silent song you sing

You struggle to raise your head

Upwards, ever upwards

Against the winds that so strongly blow

Tossing you downwards, ever downwards.

But still you struggle to rise above

And ditch the chains that bind you

A knowing hand appears in time

And with a heave you flew

Until the winds beneath your wings

Aided by dancing sprites

Lift you higher, ever higher

And you soar to lofty heights.

ABOUT THIS POEM

I wrote this poem in 2016 after seeing a dad and his little daughter flying a kite in a park.
